HONG KONG, 7 December, 2024 – Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children (HKSPC) upholds the mission of promoting early childhood wellbeing and development and creating happy childhoods for everyone. This year, HKSPC organised a significant fundraising event, the “Little Artist” Charity Exhibition, with the theme of “Play”, exhibiting 63 artworks of 107 children aged 1 to 15. The exhibition is held in Phillips Auction in the West Kowloon Cultural District, starting today and tomorrow (8 December). Apart from the on-site exhibition, all artworks will be exhibited online from 10 December onwards. Money raised from this event will go towards renovating the HKSPC centre playground and other play-based programmes.

A happy childhood always comes with Play. When children thoroughly enjoy the fun of Play, they can develop creativity and problem-solving skills and relieve stress and pressure. Without restricting the art medium, we invite children to transform their ideas of “Play” into delightful artworks, unleashing their boundless imagination and creativity.

The event finally attracted 107 children who submitted 63 artworks, including oil paintings, sculptures, photography, and digital art. We are glad to have our three nursery schools and two children and family services centres among the group participants. HKSPC held the opening ceremony today in the Phillips Auction in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

The event sub-committee officiates the opening ceremony: Ms Katherine Kung, Ms Amy Chan, Ms Grace Ko and Ms Sara Mao. HKSPC is honoured to have Ms Jacqueline Chow (Honorary Secretary of HKSPC Executive Committee), Mr Evan Chow (Member of HKSPC Executive Committee), Mrs Lorraine Malingue (Co-founder of Hong Kong art gallery Kiang Malingue) and Ms Yvonne Fong (Senior Specialist & Director, Modern & Contemporary Art of Phillips) as the event judges, presenting the “Most Playful Piece”, “Most Environmentally Piece”, “Most Colourful Piece” and “Most Interesting Composition”.

Our judge, Mr Evan Chow, is the Board of Trustees at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City and the Co-Chairperson of the International Leadership Council. Mr. Chow also serves on the International Council at Tate Modern in London and the Board of Governors at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

Ms Subrina Chow, Director of HKSPC, says,” Play and games are essential elements of childhood memories and are crucial for achieving a happy childhood. They should not be overlooked. Therefore, we hope to spread this message to the public through the ‘Little Artist’ event and encourage parents to spend more time playing with their children to build a close parent-child relationship.”

The “Little Artist” fundraising event will end on December 31, and over HK$700,000 has been raised so far. The money raised will go towards renovating the HKSPC centre playground and other play-based programmes.
